I wish the ape a lot of success.

Sorry for taking the best part of a month off. I didn't mean to really... it just sorta went that way. January, y'know.
I have finally, falteringly begun throwing together some new posts which should be ready shortly, but in the meantime;
Whilst ploughing through some other work this evening, I somehow found myself mooching over to 8-Tracks for the first time in years, there to create a sonic impression of how the winter's gone thus far.
Within, you'll find a handful of tracks that could well claim to be 'much loved classics' in this neck of the woods, a lot of heavy rock and very little subtlety... but it is, after all, the fucking winter, and this is the kinda stuff that gets me through the day.
EDIT: It has come to my attention that 8-Tracks were letting adverts run rampant over the simple embed code that was previously in this space, so fuck 'em. The link to my page there is on the list above if you're interested, and in future maybe I'll just share small quantities of unlicensed music the old fashioned way... anyone got some C60s going spare?

Something More Cheerful, As Promised.
It's ages since I did one of these, but lack of interest's not gonna stop me!
Tune in via the embedded box above for happy hits from The Nervebreakers, Elli et Jacno, Overnight Lows, The International Submarine Band, Ego Summit and *more*.

Agh!
Clegg, you spineless, dead-eyed fuck!
I’ve never much trusted the Liberal Democrats in the past few years thanks to their general shifty uselessness, but for the party whose box I ticked the other day (if admittedly only in the hope they might put a dent in the two-party system) to sell us all out to the Tories… well, shit. Unless they manage to swing some proper electoral reform post-haste, fuck these guys.
Here’s a good election song – not one that’s been terribly relevant until today, but it popped up on my mp3 player recently and I thought it would make for an appropriate listen if poor old Gordon Brown collapsed with amphetamine psychosis or flipped out and lamped somebody. I guess this evening I offer it to him in a more celebratory frame of mind;
Mike Rep & The Quotas – I Resign
And it’s not big and it’s not clever, but here’s a collection of one of my favourite themed sub-sets of songs for Nick Clegg;

8 TRACKS: 2010 THUS FAR.Seems like ages since I've made one of these, so thought I'd get my act together. A few favourite tunes of 2010 thus far. Newness from Best Coast, The Spits, Myelin Sheaths, French Kissing etc., oldness from Dust, Gene Vincent, Epic Soundtracks, rediscoveredness from Carl Simmons, Sarolta Zalatnay; awesomeness from all concerned.

New 8 Track:
Doomed & Confident
Yeah, another one of these damn things I'm afraid. Let me know if you're sick of me posting 'em here...
(Link.)
This one's got loads of neat stuff, like Francoise Hardy, Grass Widow, Phyllis Dixon, the Velvets, and kicks off with this little number from Canadian punks The Dishrags that gets more perfect every time I listen/watch:

New 8 Track: Clowns & Locusts

Yet another one I'm afraid; just another bunch of great songs - no theme, although you could probably sum it up as new weird garage vs. old weird garage. I'd also like to take the opportunity to congratulate The Fresh & Onlys on coming up with my favourite stupid/genius song of the year so far (although I'm not really sold on their output as a whole).

New 8 Track: Ticket To Oblivion

No theme this time around.
Just ten (TEN) tracks worth of DIY pop, freaked out psych, bizarro world dancefloor smashes and the like...

8 Tracks: Fuzzbox Baby

I put together a new 8 Track today. The intro I wrote that wouldn't fit in their text-box goes as follows:
They may have been preceded by the timeless ‘overloaded amp w/ knitting needles’ approach, and they may have been succeeded by their more refined cousins the overdrive/distortion pedals, but it’s still the mad, farting one trick fuzzboxes I love the best. I think the introduction of cheap, widely available fuzz in the ‘60s marked a great democratisation in music-making, for the first time allowing lazy, sloppy or inexperienced musicians to say EAT THIS, and make people’s hair stand on end at the stomp of a footswitch. Here are some god-fearing folks from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘00s to tell you more about that. (The Zeros track is included for its sweet fuzztone, not its lyrical sentiments, and the Rallizes track is an edit for space reasons.)

Reissue Now!
To celebrate the fact that I've finally got my own internet connection again, here's a new 8-Track.
THEME: The '60s may be pretty thoroughly picked over, but there is still tons of great, great music from the late '70s / '80s / early '90s that remains unfairly stuck in out-of-print obscurity, some of it never even issued on CD, surviving only as weblog-posted vinyl rips consumed by geeks like me, rather than the wider public who deserve a chance to enjoy it. So, er, here are some of my favourite examples of such, I suppose. Enjoy, and on the unlikely off-chance you've got some of these artists' master-tapes mouldering in yr basement: give it a thought, huh?

Easter Everywhere.
Sorry as ever for the lack of recent posts. General busy-ness, lack of internet access, etc. It's seems though that we've hit Easter - always one of my favourite times of the year. Sacrifice, rebirth, resurrection, winter into spring, blah blah blah - good stuff. As such, rest assured I've got some new posts coming up later this week. And, in the meantime, why not pay oblique tribute to the 13th Floor Elevators' easter-tastic 2nd LP by enjoying my new 8 Track full of choice Texas garage band madness:

8 TRACKS
So Muxtape in it's prior form is officially deceased, although the site's founder has some pretty smart and even-handed things to say on the matter, and is planning to relaunch the whole business as something that sounds as if it MIGHT be a functional, non-corporate alternative to band myspaces - so that's something to look forward to.
In the meantime, behold: Stereo Sanctity 8-Track!
You know the score, I'm sure. Only eight songs allowed, but I can embed these on the blog too, like so:
Enjoy!
